Lehi City Council Appoints Emily Lockhart to City Council

Lockhart will fill the recent council vacancy.

LEHI, UT – December 24, 2025 – During an open and public meeting held on Monday, December 22, 2025, the Lehi City Council appointed Emily Lockhart to fill the vacant city council seat created by the resignation of Councilor Paige Albrecht.

The vacancy generated strong community interest, with 17 residents submitting applications to serve on the Council. Of those applicants, 16 candidates participated in a public interview process conducted during the City Council meeting.

The interview process included brief introductions from each candidate, followed by questions from current City Council members, including Councilor Albrecht. The process was conducted in a transparent and public setting, allowing residents to observe the interviews and council deliberations.

Prior to casting her vote, Councilor Albrecht expressed gratitude to all applicants and reflected on the strong spirit of service demonstrated throughout the process.

“I’m grateful to all of you who have thrown your hat in the ring,” Albrecht said. “It will send me out the door with warmth in my heart for how many people want to serve the community.”

Albrecht also shared the qualities she considered most important in selecting a successor, including a commitment to public service, an understanding of the demands of public office, and a strong respect for the U.S. and Utah Constitutions.

“When those tough decisions come before you, that should always be your first question and where your first allegiance lies,” she said. “That said, I believe and vote this evening, should anyone else agree with me, would be that Emily Lockhart replace me in this chair.”

Council members Paul Hancock and Heather Newell also voted in favor of Lockhart’s appointment, resulting in a majority vote. Emily Lockhart will serve an interim term on the Lehi City Council from December 22, 2025, through January 2028, in accordance with Utah Code. Upon selection, Lockhart was administered the oath of office and officially assumed her duties as a member of the City Council.

Lehi City thanks all residents who applied and participated in the interview process and appreciates the community’s continued engagement in local government.
