Did you know running a gas powered lawn mower for 1 hour emits as much pollution as driving a car 196 miles?
To combat air pollution, the Utah State Division of Air Quality is offering a lawn mower exchange program in Spring 2019. This year’s Lawn Mower Exchange Program has 1,259 electric lawn mowers and 972 electric lawn trimmers available to residents who live in summer ozone nonattainment areas (Davis, Salt Lake, Tooele, Utah and Weber counties). The Exchange will take place in three separate locations along the Wasatch Front. Participants will be able to exchange a gas-powered lawn mower and/or trimmer for a discounted electric lawn mower ($99) or electric trimmer ($49) or one of each. Fee waivers are available for qualified low-income households.
Submissions are accepted from now until March 15. Winners are selected by a random drawing. Click this link to submit your information: https://deq.utah.gov/air-quality/clean-air-retrofit-replacement-and-off-road-technology-voluntary-emissions-reduction-program-carrot.
