Thallium Update, March 9, 2012
The water tests came back from the lab and several samples were still over the 2 ppb. The Lehi Water Department will continue flushing the culinary water lines over the weekend. The Water Department will take samples Sunday, March 11th, which will be sent to the lab Monday, March 12th. Lab results should be available Tuesday, March 13th in the afternoon.
I understand that there is some confusion about how often the drinking water is tested. The clean drinking water regulations require water systems to test monthly for bacteria, yearly for most other things, and every three years for Thallium. If Thallium is detected in a water system then yearly testing is required. All the testing requirements are set by the EPA and enforced by the Utah State Division of Drinking Water. Test Results are reported to all addresses in the city through the Consumer Confidence Report (CCR). This report is produced once a year and is required by law. If you would like to read more about the CCR please go to http://water.epa.gov/lawsregs/rulesregs/sdwa/ccr/index.cfm.
