School Field Trips

Tour of the Hutchings Museum  -   Basic Information

We can accommodate all ages from preschool and kindergarten to high school and college aged students.
Maximum 100 students at a time and a minimum requirement of 20 students.  
This tour can accommodate up to 100 students at a time, you will be divided into 6-8 groups for the tour.
We will open as early as (10:00 AM) for school groups.  
You can schedule tours to begin at 10, 11, 12, or 1:00.  
If your schools are larger than 100 students, you can split the classes into 2 different time slots in 1 day (if bus schedules and other time frames are met. OR  You can divide students and arrange to come on  2 different days.

General Tour

* Schools with 80 students or less:
Two hour tour— Divide into 6 groups
** Schools with 80 – 100 students:
Two hour tour— Divide into 7-8 groups
Cameras are welcome.
A guide gives a presentation in each room as well as time for individual exploration when time permits.
Exhibits and presentations include school curriculum for the 3rd, 4th, and 5th grades.  
ALL GRADE LEVELS ARE WELCOME AND EVERYONE WILL ENJOY AND LEARN FROM EVERY ROOM.

Specialized - General Tour With  1 Activity (Workshops)

* ONLY  80 STUDENTS OR LESS :

Each workshop or specialized tour with activity will be an additional $1.00 – $4.00 added to the general admission fee of $3. The extra cost covers the additional instruction and supplies needed to complete the craft or project. Each student typically takes home a completed craft or project to treasure.

* ONLY  80 STUDENTS OR LESS :
Two hour tour—  (60 students or less)  Choose  3-4 Rooms plus 1 activity or workshop with added cost.
Two and a half  hour tour  (up to 80 students)— Choose 4 Rooms plus 1 activity or workshop with added cost.  * Each activity can only accomodate 20 or less students.

Activities:

Beat of the Drum/Native American Studies- Without General Tour 

* ONLY  80 STUDENTS OR LESS.

Cost-$3.00 Per Student, Plus Activity Cost if applicable.
Each student will leave with a greater knowledge and appreciation of Native American life, food, legends, tools & weapons and shelters. They will also experience hands on activities in and around our Native American Room.

Two hour tours, (60 students or less only) — Choose 4-5 activities.
Two and a half  hour tour — Choose 4-5 activities.

Activities that cost extra:

Students will be given an opportunity for artistic expression as they design their own piece of rock art panel as did the Native American Cultures of the Southwest did years ago.

Students learn the native art of beading.  They will create a bracelet with a basic knowledge of the art.

Each child will learn the meaning of the medicine bag and it’s contents and make their very own to take with them everywhere.

Everyone has a history.  Each child can tell their own history with Pictographs.  Learn the ancient form of story telling on the skins of animals.

 

Science and Geology Studies- Without General Tour

Natural History Field Trip.

Cost is $3.00 per student

$3.00 per Parent.

Teachers are free.

ACTIVITY

Pecking Fossils Activity $2.00 extra. (OFFERED WEATHER PERMITTING ONLY) Fossil Pecking will be discontinued when our supplies are gone.

Take a tour of the Dinosaur, Crocodile and Ice Age Exhibits, as well as the Rock and Mineral Room.  
Come face to face with the skull of the biggest crocodile that ever lived; so big he actually hunted Tyrannosaurus Rex!  Learn about ancient sharks and crocodiles that survived the great extinction and are still with us today.  Include the Fossil Pecking activity for an additional cost of $2.00.
Learn about Utah’s surprising Ice Age history- a time when Utah was home to many animals one would expect to find in Africa such as lions, cheetahs, zebras and camels. Come see the fossil remains of these prehistoric giants that roamed Utah.
